Ever wondered how to easily become a responsible explorer? Read these 6 simple tips that will help you on your next adventure.
Are you planning your next trip and want to leave as positive an impact as possible? Look no further! Here are six simple tips for making your travel a bit more sustainable. Making it easier for you to take the first steps on your next adventure.
Traveling more sustainably is all about the choices you make while on the go. But maybe you do not really know how to make a better choice? It only takes a few simple steps for you to start reducing your carbon footprint, support local economies, and preserve the natural beauty of the places you visit. And it all comes with a bonus - you actually get a more authentic and local travel experience in return.
Look for hotels and lodges that either have a sustainability certification (not sure what that is? Trust the sign, or read a bit more here: https://www.tripdoodler.com/certified-options ) Alternatively, you can also look for the ones that have implemented sustainability actions, such as recycling, replacing single use plastic, serving organic food, using locally sourced materials or have implemented food waste initiatives.
Eat at locally-owned restaurants, buy souvenirs from local artisans, and use local guides to learn about the area's history and culture. In other words - think local in all you do!
This way you can support the local economy and your money is more likely to stay in the community.
Some places are clearly best suited for cars, and it can be a bit of a hassle sometimes. But by choosing public transportation, walking, or biking instead of renting a car, you'll reduce your carbon footprint and the bonus is that you will meet the locals and get a more authentic experience of the place you're visiting.
When you bring a reusable water bottle, tote bag, and cutlery you can avoid single-use plastic. Say no to straws and plastic bags, and choose products with minimal packaging.
Learn about the local customs and traditions, and be mindful of how your actions impact the environment and wildlife. Don't touch or feed animals, and avoid activities that exploit animals or harm their natural habitat.
All our travels leave a footprint. You can reduce this, but not eliminate it completely (for now). Consider offsetting your carbon emissions by purchasing carbon credits or supporting projects that reduce carbon emissions. This helps mitigate some of the impact of your travel and supports more sustainable development.
When you spend a few minutes acknowledging all the sustainability actions you see at hotels, restaurants, cafes - well at all places you visit really - you make it easier for the next traveler to choose more sustainably. But equaly important, you help the businesses communicate their sustainability efforts to the world and incentivise them to constantly improve. TripDoodler’s user rating makes this very simple for you.
We hope we have inspired you to the first steps in choosing more sustainably. How you start traveling more sustainably is a personal choice so choose the step(s) that works for you! We wish you a joyful trip on your next adventure.
