When we travel, we put pressure on the culture, environment, and people we're visiting. Without compromising our experience, we can make better travel choices and leave destinations better than we found them. We believe that by doing so, your experiences might be even better.

That said, there is no such thing as sustainable travel, because travel will always have an impact. The question is how do we minimize the negative impact as much as possible through the choices we make while traveling?

What can you do to travel more sustainably?

The answer is really simple. You can make better choices!

The challenge is that it's not always easy to do so. Sustainability information is something we have to actively search for, and it's often hard to find when planning and booking.

Imagine if this information could available right next to the price, location, menu & reviews when researching, making it super simple to compare sustainability information and choose better.

TripDoodler makes this possible for literally everyone!

But is sustainability the same for everyone?

We believe sustainable travel is a journey in itself and is built on the choices we make before, during, and after travel. It doesn’t matter if they're big or small; every step you take counts, and TripDoodler is built to support your personal journey.

Our vision is to make sustainable options accessible to every traveler. We hope to create a global community of conscious travelers dedicated to helping each other take better care of the people and places they visit.

Together we’ll create the world’s largest database of better travel choices, empowered by first-hand insights from globetrotters from every corner of the world.

What are the industry standards?

At TripDoodler, sustainable travel and tourism goes beyond the obvious climate impact. We're guided by the three pillars defined by UNWTO for sustainable tourism - Environmental, Socio-cultural, and Economic.

We are inspired by The 2030 Agenda, which is a plan of action for people, planet, and prosperity, with an ambitious 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets in total.

With tourism being one of the largest and fastest growing economies in the world, the opportunity to create a positive impact, directly or indirectly, is significant. Our focus is specifically on two Tourism UN SDG subgoals:

8.9 - Promoting beneficial and sustainable tourism

SDG 8: Decent work and Economic Growth

4.7 - Education for sustainable development and Global Citizenship

SDG 4: Quality Education

Use TripDoodler to find and share more sustainability actions

Find and share sustainability actions at your accommodations and dining spots to guide fellow travelers in making more eco-friendly choices. When you rate a business on TripDoodler, you highlight its sustainability efforts, making it simpler for future travelers to discover.

Raise your voice

We've created the world’s first sustainability user rating, allowing you to share how you perceive sustainability actions, even if you aren't a sustainability guru. It works through simple yes or no questions, guiding you all the way.

Help business owners

When you acknowledge sustainable actions that you see using our rating, you give the business information on how their efforts are perceived and let them know that you care.

How did we choose our parameters?

The TripDoodler user rating has a long set of parameters all carefully selected based on these 4 categories:

Currently, you can acknowledge sustainability actions (parameters) for Accommodations, Places to Eat & Drink, and Shops. The parameters vary slightly for each category, since we have taken care to fit the parameters to each business type.

On TripDoodler, we evaluate our parameters yearly. As we collect data, we get additional insights into sustainability practices. As the level of sustainability actions implemented goes up, the parameters will be replaced with other more ambitious ones.

Explore the parameters on your own!
